SEM 38203 Guide Coat Black 16 oz Aerosol, MPN 38203 and Mariners Warehouse SKU 109311, supplies visual sanding guide for defects in a primed repair. Find low spots, sanding scratches and minor imperfections while sanding a suitable primed repair. Apply the black Guide Coat as a light mist, then use the prescribed sanding process to check the surface.
Guide Coat leaves a contrasting sanding reference on a supported primed surface. The remaining dark marks help locate low spots, scratches or other minor defects as the surrounding guide layer is sanded away. It is an inspection aid within the repair process; it does not fill the defect or replace primer surfacer. SEM describes a quick-drying formula designed to avoid loading the abrasive when used as directed. No exact vehicle fit, structural repair or final protective finish is implied.
Complete the underlying repair and prepare the primer under its manufacturer’s instructions. Shake the aerosol vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball rattles; SEM gives approximately 70°F / 21°C can temperature for best results. Apply a light mist over the repair and sand until the Guide Coat is no longer visible, using the primer/repair system’s specified abrasive and sanding method. Remaining color can identify areas needing further inspection and repair; do not keep thinning the surrounding primer just to remove color from a deep defect. Follow the label for spray-tip clearing and the SDS for ventilation, protective equipment, ignition control and storage. No fixed sanding-wait time is invented here.

Application Guides
Check 38203 by its actual factory-finish, sanding-guide, primer-surfacer or clearcoat role. Confirm substrate, coating compatibility, color or sheen, preparation, application and package before choosing.
Use contrasting Guide Coat to inspect a primed repair for remaining low spots and sanding scratches.
Complete the repair and follow the actual primer’s preparation and sanding requirements. This guide layer is not a bare-metal primer.
Guide Coat reveals defects; a suitable primer surfacer supplies the separate filling/priming layer. Their roles are different.
Shake for one minute after the ball rattles and use the approximately 70°F / 21°C can-temperature reference. Mist the surface under the label instructions.
Follow the repair system’s sanding procedure and inspect remaining dark marks. Address defects without needlessly sanding away the surrounding primer.
One SEM 38203 Guide Coat Black aerosol in the manufacturer-listed 16-ounce container format. Read the can for net contents. Primer, sanding block, abrasives and repair materials are separate; this is one can, not a 12-can case. Read the label/SDS for aerosol handling.
SEM 38203 is a black sanding guide applied as a light mist to a suitable primed surface. SEM 42013 is a gray High-Build Primer Surfacer used as a separate sandable priming/filling coating under its own preparation and application procedure. Guide Coat shows imperfections; primer surfacer builds the prepared layer.
Choose the step the repair actually needs, and use both only when the complete repair process calls for them. A black contrast layer does not repair a low spot, and primer surfacer does not replace the inspection provided by a sanding guide. Review the SEM 42013 High-Build Primer Surfacer Gray 20 oz Aerosol as a separately sold option.
Choose by the actual repair function, substrate, profile and application instructions, then compare exact package contents.
Compare replacement seals, edge trim and repair products by their own documented role, dimensions and installation requirements.
Review cleaning products for a separate surface-care task. Check the exact material and label; category placement does not establish adhesive-preparation compatibility.
Return to the parent collection for another maintenance or replacement task. Check every item’s own requirements.
