This OBR Mercury 60 HP BigFoot lower unit is a new or remanufactured replacement gearcase for selected older three-cylinder Mercury/Mariner BigFoot applications requiring a 20-inch L-shaft.

Three configurations are offered. The earlier ME-G3-04-R application uses a 3-jaw arrangement for the verified 1995–1997 group. The later ME-G3-05-R and ME-G3-05-N applications use a 6-jaw arrangement for the verified 1998–2008 group.

Horsepower and year alone cannot confirm fitment. Match the selected unit using the complete engine model and serial number, existing OEM gearcase number, jaw configuration, driveshaft length, gear ratio, and rotation.

These are OBR aftermarket replacement gearcases for compatible Mercury/Mariner engines. They are not represented as Mercury-manufactured lower units.

How to Choose the Correct Mercury 60 HP BigFoot Lower Unit

The most important difference between these OBR Mercury BigFoot lower-unit configurations is not simply whether the unit is new or remanufactured. The selected year group must also match the existing jaw arrangement.

The ME-G3-04-R is a remanufactured 3-jaw configuration for the verified 1995–1997 application group. The ME-G3-05-R and ME-G3-05-N use the later 6-jaw configuration for the verified 1998–2008 group. The latter two SKUs share the same published OEM references but differ in condition.

Every option on this page uses a 20-inch L driveshaft. A 25-inch XL application requires a different product.

Before choosing a variant, locate the engine identification plate and record the complete model and serial number. Also inspect the existing gearcase for an OEM number and confirm the jaw arrangement, driveshaft length, gear ratio and rotation. Do not assume that two engines with the same horsepower use the same lower unit.

If you cannot identify one of these attributes, send Mariners Warehouse the engine-tag information and clear photographs of the existing gearcase before ordering.

What Customers Say

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know whether this OBR Mercury BigFoot lower unit fits my engine?
Match the complete engine model and serial number, verified horsepower and year, current OEM gearcase number, jaw configuration, driveshaft length, gear ratio and rotation. Horsepower and year alone cannot confirm fitment.
Which horsepower is verified by OBR for these three SKUs?
OBR’s current public listings identify ME-G3-04-R, ME-G3-05-R and ME-G3-05-N as 60 HP applications.
Does this product fit a 50 HP or 55 HP Mercury BigFoot?
The current OBR SKU pages do not confirm 50 HP or 55 HP coverage for these three part numbers. Submit the complete engine model, serial number and current OEM gearcase number for written fitment confirmation before ordering.
What is the difference between the 3-jaw and 6-jaw configurations?
The verified ME-G3-04-R application uses a 3-jaw configuration for 1995–1997. ME-G3-05-R and ME-G3-05-N use a 6-jaw configuration for 1998–2008. Match the configuration on the existing unit.
Which shaft length is available on this product page?
All three listed configurations are for a 20-inch L-shaft application. This page does not provide a 25-inch XL configuration.
What gear ratio does this lower unit use?
OBR’s public pages for these SKUs do not publish the gear ratio. Confirm the ratio from the existing gearcase or through an engine-serial-number fitment review before ordering.
Is this a standard-rotation or counter-rotation lower unit?
Do not determine rotation from horsepower or engine position. Verify the rotation of the existing gearcase and submit its OEM number before ordering.
Does this fit the newer four-cylinder four-stroke Mercury BigFoot?
No. The newer inline-four four-stroke BigFoot and Command Thrust family uses a different product and SKU group. Use the separate four-cylinder BigFoot lower-unit page.
What information should I provide for fitment review?
Provide the complete engine model and serial number, horsepower, model year, current OEM gearcase number, jaw configuration, 20-inch shaft confirmation, existing ratio and rotation.
Does the OBR lower unit arrive with gear oil?
No. OBR states that gearcase assemblies ship without oil. Fill the unit with the manufacturer-required lubricant before operation.
What warranty applies to this lower unit?
OBR provides a two-year limited warranty for new and remanufactured gearcases. Written terms, inspection requirements and exclusions apply.
Can I return the lower unit after installing it?
No. Mariners Warehouse’s current return policy states that assembled, installed, used or rented merchandise cannot be returned. Request fitment review before installation.
