This OBR Mercury 60 HP BigFoot lower unit is a new or remanufactured replacement gearcase for selected older three-cylinder Mercury/Mariner BigFoot applications requiring a 20-inch L-shaft.
Three configurations are offered. The earlier ME-G3-04-R application uses a 3-jaw arrangement for the verified 1995–1997 group. The later ME-G3-05-R and ME-G3-05-N applications use a 6-jaw arrangement for the verified 1998–2008 group.
Horsepower and year alone cannot confirm fitment. Match the selected unit using the complete engine model and serial number, existing OEM gearcase number, jaw configuration, driveshaft length, gear ratio, and rotation.
These are OBR aftermarket replacement gearcases for compatible Mercury/Mariner engines. They are not represented as Mercury-manufactured lower units.

OBR gearcase assemblies ship without gear oil. Before operation, fill the unit with the lubricant required by the engine manufacturer and adjust idle speed and shift operation to the manufacturer’s specifications.

The most important difference between these OBR Mercury BigFoot lower-unit configurations is not simply whether the unit is new or remanufactured. The selected year group must also match the existing jaw arrangement.
The ME-G3-04-R is a remanufactured 3-jaw configuration for the verified 1995–1997 application group. The ME-G3-05-R and ME-G3-05-N use the later 6-jaw configuration for the verified 1998–2008 group. The latter two SKUs share the same published OEM references but differ in condition.
Every option on this page uses a 20-inch L driveshaft. A 25-inch XL application requires a different product.
Before choosing a variant, locate the engine identification plate and record the complete model and serial number. Also inspect the existing gearcase for an OEM number and confirm the jaw arrangement, driveshaft length, gear ratio and rotation. Do not assume that two engines with the same horsepower use the same lower unit.
If you cannot identify one of these attributes, send Mariners Warehouse the engine-tag information and clear photographs of the existing gearcase before ordering.
