Start with drive identity, not horsepower or appearance alone. Confirm whether the installed drive is Bravo One, Bravo Two or Bravo Three, and determine whether the repair requires a complete sterndrive, upper unit, lower unit or transom assembly.
Next, match the existing overall gear ratio and every assembly-specific detail. A similar-looking Bravo outdrive can still contain a different gear combination, water-pickup design or oil-passage configuration.

Bravo Three uses two contra-rotating propellers on one sterndrive. This design is different from selecting a separate conventional counter-rotation drive for one side of a twin-engine installation.
Shop Bravo Three as its own drive family, then confirm the exact overall gear ratio, upper-and-lower combination and SE128 product number. Do not confuse “dual prop” with a Bravo One “dual water pickup.” Dual prop describes the propeller arrangement, while dual water pickup describes the water-inlet configuration.
Start with the assembly you need, then confirm the exact Bravo family, overall gear ratio and product-specific application on the selected listing.
Compare Bravo One SE121 complete sterndrives in 1.36, 1.50 and 1.65 ratios with side-only or dual water pickups, plus Bravo Three SE128 complete drives across the currently listed gear-ratio range.
Shop SE121 Bravo upper units by 29/27, 30/23 or 32/27 tooth count. Confirm the final drive ratio, retained lower unit and matching front oil-recirculation passage.
Choose a Bravo One SE121 or SE122 lower unit by side-only or dual water pickup, or compare Bravo Three SE128 lower units by the verified overall-ratio group.

Standard Rotation — Right-Hand:
A standard-rotation Bravo sterndrive uses a right-hand propeller that rotates clockwise in forward gear when viewed from behind the boat. This configuration is commonly found in single-engine installations and many compatible multi-engine applications. Before ordering a Bravo One or Bravo Two standard-rotation replacement, confirm the exact drive family, overall gear ratio, upper-unit configuration, water-pickup style, drive serial number and current part number.
Counter Rotation — Left-Hand:
A counter-rotation Bravo sterndrive uses a left-hand propeller that rotates counterclockwise in forward gear when viewed from behind the boat. Counter rotation may be used in selected compatible twin-engine Bravo installations to provide opposing propeller directions. Standard and counter-rotation Bravo drives should not be treated as interchangeable, so verify the existing rotation designation, drive family, gear ratio and product number instead of selecting a replacement only by its port or starboard position.
Bravo is a drive family, not one universal replacement. Identify the installed MerCruiser Bravo drive first, then select the assembly and configuration supported by the exact product listing.
| Drive Family, Propeller Arrangement & Available Shopping Paths | Verify Before Ordering |
|---|---|
| Bravo One — Single-prop drive — Complete SE121 sterndrives, SE121 upper units, side-only and dual water-pickup lowers, and the listed transom application | Confirm the overall gear ratio, water-pickup style, upper tooth count, oil-passage configuration, and current part numbers |
| Bravo Two — Large single-prop drive — Selected SE121 upper-unit applications and the listed Bravo transom application | Do not assume a complete Bravo Two drive or lower unit is currently offered; verify the exact product and retained assembly |
| Bravo Three — Dual contra-rotating propellers on one drive — Complete SE128 sterndrives, compatible SE121 upper units, SE128 lower units, and the listed transom application | Confirm the overall ratio, matching upper and lower combination, product number, and Bravo Three dual-prop configuration |
Replacing the Bravo Three drive on my 28-foot cruiser made a world of difference. The 2.00:1 gear ratio matched my 350 Mag MPI engine perfectly. Mariners Warehouse provided clear guidance on verifying drive shaft splines before ordering.
Finding a reliable Bravo One replacement for a 454 Mag V8 can be tough, but this unit handles the torque easily. The 1.50:1 ratio configuration was clearly listed, and shipping was fast with heavy-duty crate packaging.
The Bravo 2 replacement unit gave my heavy displacement hull the prop clearance and push it needed. The 2.20:1 gear ratio specs were spot-on. The serial number lookup advice on the site saved me from buying the wrong upper ratio.
Ordered a complete Bravo 3 upper and lower assembly. The counter-rotating dual props eliminate torque steer completely. The application guide on Mariners Warehouse made it simple to confirm compatibility with my 6.2L Mercruiser.
The 1.65:1 Bravo One unit bolted straight onto my original gimbal housing without any alignment issues. Shifting into gear is crisp and quiet. Make sure to follow the recommended 10-hour break-in oil change.
I appreciated how well the Bravo collection page breaks down gear ratio options by engine displacement. Buying the 1.81:1 ratio for our 5.0L MPI was quick, and the unit arrived fully sealed with all gaskets.
This replacement Bravo drive is built like a tank. It handles the high torque of my 502 block with zero issues. Fits exact OEM specs and saved me thousands compared to a factory crate drive.
We replaced both outdrives on a twin-engine setup. The product details made distinguishing between standard gear sets and rotation options straightforward. Water pressure and oil levels have remained rock solid.

Confirm whether the installed drive is Bravo One, Bravo Two or Bravo Three. Collect the engine and drive serial numbers, current part numbers, overall gear ratio and the assembly you need. For an upper or lower replacement, also confirm the retained assembly and its configuration.
Bravo One uses a single propeller, Bravo Two is designed around a large single propeller, and Bravo Three uses two contra-rotating propellers on one drive. These drive configurations should not be treated as interchangeable without product-specific confirmation.
Current Bravo shopping paths primarily include Bravo One and Bravo Three complete sterndrives. Selected Bravo upper-unit and transom applications may mention Bravo Two. Check the current product listing or contact Mariners Warehouse for availability.
Match the verified ratio of the installed application unless a qualified marine propulsion professional has specified a complete reconfiguration. Do not choose a Bravo gear ratio from horsepower, propeller appearance or desired speed alone.
The upper gear set combines with the lower unit to produce the complete sterndrive’s overall ratio. Match the required 29/27, 30/23 or 32/27 tooth-count application, retained lower unit and required oil-passage configuration.
These terms describe the water-inlet configuration on applicable Bravo One lower units. The 90-121-02 shopping path uses side-only inlets, while 90-122-02 is listed for a dual water-pickup configuration. Match the existing application before ordering.
Bravo Three uses two contra-rotating propellers on one drive. Shop it as a Bravo Three application and match the exact ratio and product number instead of applying a conventional standard-versus-counter lower-unit choice.
The current SE121 upper-unit applications are not listed as replacements for Bravo X, XR or XZ drives. Do not order for these applications unless the exact product page and current manufacturer data explicitly confirm compatibility.
Do not assume it does. A complete sterndrive generally refers to a matched upper and lower drive assembly. The transom assembly, propeller, trim components, installation kit, anode kit, lubricant and hardware are separate unless the selected listing explicitly includes them.
Warranty coverage is product-specific. Review the manufacturer and store terms linked to the selected SKU, including the coverage period, application requirements, exclusions, claim procedure and freight responsibility.
