Why Riptide Terrova Shaft Length Matters
A bow-mounted trolling motor works from one of the most active parts of a saltwater boat. As the bow rises and falls in waves, the distance between the mounting surface and water changes. If the shaft is too short, the lower unit can move too close to the surface. The propeller may draw air, lose effective bite and create noise at exactly the moment you need positioning control.

How to Measure for a Riptide Terrova Shaft
Use the actual installation location—not the rub rail, gunwale or a point near the mount. The measurement must begin where the trolling motor will sit and end at the water surface directly below it.
- Load the boat realistically. Include normal fuel, batteries, gear and equipment. Passenger distribution changes trim, so avoid measuring an empty hull if it normally runs loaded.
- Choose the exact bow-mount location. Confirm that the deck is suitable and that the deployed shaft can clear the hull.

Do not add 9 inches for a hand-control bow motor

Riptide Terrova 54 vs 60-Inch Shaft
The difference is six inches, but it can decide whether the lower unit stays submerged when weight shifts or moderate chop lifts the bow. Choose 54 inches when the measured bow height plus operating allowance fits comfortably. Move to 60 inches when the 54-inch choice would sit near the minimum or when the mounting plate raises the motor above the deck.
Do not move to 60 solely because it sounds safer. Check whether the extra shaft above the mount affects casting, deployed depth or stowed clearance. Also confirm that the chosen 55 or 80 lb configuration is available with the required shaft and MPN.
Riptide Terrova 72 vs 87-Inch Shaft
This 15-inch jump is significant. It is often where the decision shifts from a high-bow coastal setup to a very high mounting position or more demanding offshore motion. If 72 inches preserves the required immersion through your normal bow rise, the 87-inch shaft may add avoidable bulk. If the 72-inch motor is likely to ventilate in the conditions you fish, the longer option can protect control.
Before choosing 87 inches, physically map the stowed shaft and motor head on deck. Confirm that it will not obstruct a hatch, anchor locker, rail, navigation light or casting path.
Riptide Terrova 87 vs 100-Inch Shaft
The 100-inch option is not a default upgrade from 87 inches. It exists for exceptional bow height and movement where 87 inches cannot maintain reliable submersion. How do I measure for a Riptide Terrova shaft?

Should I choose a Riptide Terrova 54 or 60-inch shaft?
